We experienced quite strange behavior when opening modal dialogs in the Java Swing client, running as applet. When leaving with the mouse the dialog, and when e.g. navigating to an other browser tab, then we experienced quite frequently a crash somewhere in the browser/VM area.

We use Java 1.8.66 together with Fierfox 43.

...a good reason to really go the WebStart way...!

with new JRE-Version 1.8.0_71-b15 the behavior seems to be fixed

Firefox 43.0.4
Java(TM) Plattform SE 8 U71

Für ein Plug-in-freies Web: Oracle verabschiedet sich von Java-Plug-in
"Im Fall des Java-Plug-ins sind also Entwickler, deren Anwendungen dieses Plug-in erfordern, schon länger gezwungen, sich nach Alternativen umzuschauen, etwa von Java-Applets auf die Plug-in-freie "Java Web Start"-Technik umzustellen, wie Oracle empfiehlt."
